What's going on here?
Hello! I’m Max, I’ve been sober in Secular AA since August of 2016. It’s been an extraordinary journey, one I’m forever grateful to have in my life - I almost certainly wouldn’t be sober if Secular AA didn’t exist.
My main intention here is to share some of my experiences - I’ll be sharing stuff we talk about in meetings, tying it in to broader themes, other personal-growth modalities, and bigger topics in philosophy. I want to present secular sobriety as a possibility for people who might feel like they need to get sober but who also experience friction at the religious language in traditional 12 step meetings. I also want to make some of the wisdom available in secular AA available to people who might not have a substance problem but who are nevertheless out to grow and better themselves. Finally, I want to justify secular AA as a parallel, non-competing alternative to traditional AA, and also to explore and support some of the conceptual/philosophical images which animate the secular AA community.
Since my mission here is to spread and promote these ideas, much of what I write here will be publicly available. I’ve also created a paid tier of posts, which I’ll use to share stuff that’s more intimate - sex and relationship stuff, reviews of the books I’m reading and the games I’m playing, conversations I’m having with the people who mean a lot to me.
This space will likely (and hopefully) evolve and grow as I do, and for those of you who choose to read along I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for joining me.
